I have been a nurse for 20 years, and an advanced practice nurse specializing in psychiatric and mental health care since 2015. My diverse background includes critical care, home-based primary care, case management, and mental health, and I have worked extensively with Veterans, Native Americans, and adolescents. I am dedicated to providing patients with quality care using a collaborative and holistic approach.
There is no single cause of mental health issues - genes you inherit, trauma, abnormal levels of neurotransmitters (chemicals that send signals in the brain), feeling disconnected from others, nutrition issues, and imbalance in the gut microbiome are just some of the potential underlying causes. Diagnoses such as "depression" or "anxiety" group physical and emotional experiences into categories so we can talk about them more easily, but a diagnosis never tells the whole story. Each person's experience is unique, and each person’s biology is unique. I partner with patients to develop plans specific to each person, never a cookie-cutter approach.
I provide care to people aged 10 and older for all types of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD. I offer medication management for kids under age 10 on a case-by-case basis for the treatment of ADHD only.
Centered Psychiatry, LLC is in-network for many Blue Cross, Cigna, Aetna, and United Health plans. If you have other insurance or prefer to pay privately, I can provide you with a receipt and “super bill” you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I also partner with Mentaya, a service that assists with out-of-network reimbursement if you don't want to do it yourself. Intake assessments, basic lab work, medication management, and therapy are typically covered by most plans and healthcare savings accounts, however, coverage for out-of-network services varies by insurance company and plan. Sometimes I recommend tests or supplements not typically covered by insurance, but we will always collaborate to select options that fit your goals and budget.
We start with a brief phone consultation to discuss your situation, needs, and goals and to ensure we are a good fit and want to work together. Next, we will schedule a comprehensive and holistic assessment to explore your personal and family medical and mental health history, current lifestyle and habits, symptoms, and individual strengths. This helps create a road map to guide recommendations and interventions. I may recommend basic lab work to help identify any conditions that can cause or contribute to mental health symptoms. In addition to medication and therapy, I always consider other interventions such as lifestyle modifications, coaching, improved nutrition, or the use of supplements. We will identify treatment options that are as safe as possible and discuss potential plusses and minuses of each option. No medication is risk-free, and it is impossible to guarantee that any one intervention or medication will be successful and not cause side effects. I focus on clear and accessible education so that you can make informed choices about what interventions to include in your plan of care.
